One of the children attending the King’s X Strings group, which was set up by the OAE, describes it as “indescribable”. Over many years the OAE have worked with Islington Schools and children doing what they do best, that is, reinventing approaches to engaging young musicians with classical music.

The OAE are also into their second year of the EGA Strings Group that recruits 10 new students each year and is aiming to build an orchestra in the school.

Their work in Islington has had a tremendous impact on hundreds of children and their families and we at Arts First are delighted to work in partnership with them.

This year the OAE has established an Associate School programme that brings a feast of workshops, training, performance and concerts to the Islington schools which have signed up.

2012 -2013 is the OAE’s year of Secret Wishes where they will explore with their long-standing partners, including Islington, where we go next, how they might develop their work and then create new exhilarating projects. So far we have plans to establish the Islington Creative Ensemble who will receive coaching sessions from OAE players and performance opportunities in specially programmed education days in pre-concert events.

If you would like your school to be involved with future OAE events please send a message to info@artsfirst.org.uk or use the form on our contacts page.

Children from Islington, Camden, Wandsworth & Merton joined forces with the OAE to perform Arts First Director Nathan Theodoulou's "Hallelujah Indeed!" at the Royal Festival Hall.
